Mapping scientific potential to support OTC market expansion

The challenge

Our client had recently acquired an over-the-counter anti-infective supplement and wanted to explore new use cases to expand its reach. They needed to understand where credible scientific evidence already existed, where promising opportunities were emerging, and how the product was perceived across digital channels. The aim was to shape both future claims and a targeted engagement plan.

The analysis

We began with a structured digital and social listening exercise to assess how the product was discussed across consumer and professional communities. Using tailored search strategies, we filtered and tagged content by topic, tone, and stakeholder group. This allowed us to identify key narratives, areas of interest, and the opinion leaders most actively shaping the discussion.

To ground this in evidence, we performed a targeted literature review focused on both established and emerging indications. Our team then layered in epidemiological data and mapped relevant scientific KOLs by geography and topic relevance, prioritising those with both publication weight and digital reach.

The solution

We delivered a fully integrated report that included:

  • A snapshot of current attitudes, narratives, and emerging conversations around the product
  • A review of the scientific literature supporting both current and novel use cases
  • A geo-segmented map of relevant scientific KOLs, linked to specific indications
  • Recommendations for future content strategy and expert engagement

The value to the client

The client gained a clear view of where credible expansion opportunities existed, how the product was being received, and who to engage with to shape future claims. This provided them with a strategic path for growth rooted in both evidence and influence.

Ongoing support

We continue to support the client with quarterly updates to track scientific activity, sentiment shifts, and potential claim substantiation opportunities across global markets.

One of the most powerful parts of this project was seeing how scientific curiosity could drive commercial clarity. By following the signals in both literature and digital dialogue, we helped the client spot opportunities that weren’t yet obvious to the market and build a plan to move with confidence.
