A data science project on the notes your MSLs have already written. Inputs
- MSL and medical interaction notes exported from CRM, Veeva or flat file, typically 3 to 24 months of capture
- Territory, team and author structure so quality can be read by group rather than only in aggregate
- Medical strategy and the strategic questions the insight programme is meant to answer
- Existing insight taxonomy and any internal note-quality guidance already in use
- Compliance and medical-legal framework defining what a note may and may not contain
Method
Every note is scored twice. Insight quality across educational need captured, clinical context, actionability, organisational value and evidence linkage, weighted into a single headline score. Documentation quality across structure, objectivity and completeness, kept separate so a well-written note about nothing is not confused with a badly written note about something real. Each dimension carries written reasoning, so a score can be challenged and a rubric can be recalibrated. Alongside scoring, notes are tagged against a canonical taxonomy, acronyms and synonyms are collapsed so RWE and real-world evidence do not count twice, and tags are clustered into themes and evidence gaps with the source notes attached. Compliance is flagged pass, flag or fail with the reason on the row. The output is two readings of the same corpus, what the field is telling you, and how reliably it was captured.
Assumptions
- The rubric is calibrated with your medical and MSL leadership on a sample before scoring runs at volume; the dimensions are fixed but the bar is yours.
- Notes are analysed as written. The project measures what was captured, not what was said in the room.
- Author-level results are used for coaching, not for performance management, unless your team explicitly decides otherwise.
Limitations
- Sparse territories produce a signal but not a reliable benchmark; grouping is widened where volume is too low to score fairly.
- Compliance flags are triage for human review, not a medical-legal determination.
- Scoring reflects the corpus supplied. Notes never written are invisible to it, which is why coverage is reported alongside quality.
