What is an outcomes-based agreement?
An outcomes-based agreement is a contract between a pharmaceutical company and a payer in which reimbursement or pricing is tied to the clinical or economic outcomes achieved. If the agreed-upon outcomes are not met, the manufacturer may be required to provide a rebate, refund, or other adjustment.
Why are outcomes-based agreements important in market access?
They help align pricing with value and reduce payer risk. These agreements support earlier access, foster trust between manufacturers and payers, and encourage real-world data collection. They are especially relevant for high-cost or innovative therapies where long-term impact may not be fully known at launch.
